The forth annual Empty Bowls fundraiser, organized by the Lake Oswego High School Hunger Fighter Club and ceramics classes, was held recently in the school cafeteria. Mr. Steve Schiefelbein’s ceramics classes created pottery bowls that were used to serve a simple meal of soup, bread and cookies prepared by student volunteers, New Seasons Market, and The Olive & The Grape bistro, respectively.
Attendees enjoyed the meal and kept their bowl as a reminder of the problem of domestic hunger. All funds raised at the event were matched dollar-for-dollar by Teens Fighting Hunger, which also sold their handmade products throughout the evening. The resulting $4,700 was given to Portland-based Transitional Youth (www.transitionalyouth.org), helping them pay for the 14,000 meals they expect to serve to homeless youth this year.
Thanks to everyone for a superb team effort!
