Ways To Help
HOW YOU CAN HELP
VOLUNTEER
Whether you’re a teen, pre-teen, adult, parent, or teacher, there are a variety of ways for you to help Teens Fighting Hunger in our fight against childhood hunger in America.
TEENS AND PRE-TEENS (HungerFighters)
If you are a teen or pre-teen fortunate enough never to have to worry about having enough food in your stomach, consider helping the 12.6 million American children who go hungry each month. They need your time, your energy, your skills, talents, and compassion.
Teens Fighting Hunger is all about teens giving back to their local communities in order to fight the childhood hunger battle. What can you do? Simply, you can do just about anything legal that makes money. Once your funds are raised, you can send them to Teens Fighting Hunger in order to combat childhood hunger in your state. Since your donations qualify for available matching funds provided by our sponsors, each of your dollars is potentially worth more than the amount of the donation itself.
Are you an artistic teen or pre-teen? Make your favorite product and sell it to your friends, family, at garage sales, anywhere that is safe and legal and send your proceeds to Teens Fighting Hunger.
If arts & crafts isn’t your strength, there are many other ways to contribute your time and creativity to fight childhood hunger as well.
Here are just a few fundraising ideas:
- Sell hand-made arts and crafts. If you have a special skill, put together some of your hand-made items and sell them. Invite friends over, send an e-mail to friends and acquaintances, check with your school about fairs and carnivals, check with adults working in office buildings about setting up a table, investigate local Farmers’ Markets.
- Conduct a “penny-drive” or a “dollar drive” at your school where each student brings in money to donate to Teens Fighting Hunger
- Gather some friends and put on a car wash
- Organize a pop-can drive and collect recyclable/redeemable cans
- Set up a lemonade stand or bake sale
- Are you a musician, poet, or dancer (or do you know any)? Put on a small house or coffeehouse concert/recital. You could even make a CD and donate the proceeds.
- How about a Karaoke event?
- Volunteer to work at concession stands at games, fairs, or other events (many organizations, teams, etc. offer such opportunities for fundraising purposes)
- Conduct a garage or rummage sale
- Throw a block party and collect donations
- Organize an elementary school classroom project to educate kids about childhood hunger and also to conduct any one of a variety of fundraising activities (art, lemonaid stand, carnival, etc.)
Keep in mind that your volunteer efforts may also satisfy your schools’ community service requirements. Contact your school’s representative for more information.
PARENTS/ADULTS
As adults and parents, we appreciate the fact that our families have enough to eat. We understand that we are fortunate compared to the 49 million Americans who don’t. We cannot imagine how one of the richest countries in the world can have nearly 17 million innocent hungry children. If you want to help in the fight against childhood hunger, assist a group of children/teens to raise funds by using their time, energy and talents:
- to sell hand-made items at your workplace, your home, or other locations that are conducive to the products;
- to have a work party where you supply the materials and the kids supply the labor for any number of items (e.g., hand-painted electrical outlet plates, note cards, jewelry, etc.);
- to make a child’s birthday party truly memorable by suggesting that instead of presents, each child make a donation to Teens Fighting Hunger; and/or
- to work with a teacher and classroom to oversee a project where the entire class is involved in an art project, car wash, pop-can drive, or any other activity allowing the kids to learn and grow while raising money for hungry children.
There are many other options for getting involved to raise money in concert with teens. Be creative and have fun!
Of course, outright donations are always welcome. Send your donation to us at

TEACHERS
If you are a teacher looking for ideas about
- how to teach your students about social issues and problems in the United States
- how to get your classroom active in the community
- how to demonstrate that it is better to give than to receive…
then you can do a classroom project where funds generated will go to Teens Fighting Hunger to combat childhood hunger. Choose any kind of project – an art project, concert, donation drive, school fair or carnival – and combine the teaching of a new skill or craft with an education about charity and hunger-relief.
If you need assistance developing a classroom project, please contact us at teensfightinghunger@gmail.com.
